What does "Constantly Varied Functional Movements High Intensity" mean to me?

"Where are all the machines?"  

WE are the machines.  We use a lot of free weights (think barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells).  We practice jumping, landing, pushing, pulling, running, throwing, and climbing.  What we do inside the gym can *almost* always be translated directly into some activity you do outside the gym from playing with your kids and mountain biking to carrying groceries in from the car or even just getting up off the floor.  CrossFit is constantly varied, functional movement performed at high intensity.  Not sure what that means for you and your workout?  Check out this short video. 


"I'm not sure I'm ready for CrossFit" 

Think you need to already be an athlete or at a high level of fitness before you can come to class?  Let me tell you about CrossFit.  We have members of all ages and fitness levels, and they're all doing the same workout.  How is this possible?  Our trainers work with each person in class to be sure they are working to their own ability level.  So the twentysomething competitive athletes can get their workout right alongside their seventysomething grandmother who is just there to stay active and have a better quality of life.  There may be modifications in the movement (aka "scaling"), but the main difference is the relative intensity.  By going with lighter loads, or lower targets, we can keep the intensity just right for where ever you're at.

You haven't heard of CrossFit? Let me tell you about CrossFit. CrossFit is a lifestyle in which you are prioritizing your health. The ability to do many different things at a high level of intensity. I think it's the absolute best way to help you reach your fitness goals.


If you ask 100 people to define beauty, you'll get 100 different answers. Most will falter and offer descriptions instead. CrossFit athletes are now rejecting previous definitions of beauty and putting forth their own, a definition researched and confirmed in every workout and every rep.

"I don't want to get too bulky."

Fair enough.  We all have the ideal version of ourselves in our heads.  For some of us, that might mean fitting into those favorite pair of jeans again, for others it might be hitting a personal record for their upcoming 5k or ultra run, deadlifting double their body weight, or perhaps just feeling comfortable in their own skin.  Know that it takes serious dedication and effort to "bulk up" the way the elite CrossFit athletes do.  Those that do strive for that level of fitness find beauty in their strength and love themselves for what they can accomplish.  The rest of us can work on building that lean muscle mass, burning that fat, and just feeling on top of the world after our hour in the gym.


"How do I get started?"
